I think everyone remembers somehow painting their nails with peelable, washable "nail polish" when they were kids. Having temporary nail colours was a really cool way to express yourself. I even allowed one of my schoolmates to add nail art to my fingers with liquid paper. This was a fond memory of mine, wanting fancy coloured nails, but couldn't have them due to school etc.
This brings me to this post! My sister, M was the one who introduced me to Nail Deck! She and her bestie had won a nail polish(NP) which she named from Light Lacquer (a sister brand of Nail Deck). I was initially just interested in the peach-scented cuticle oil, but ended up getting a Lacquer Kit so I could try my hands on some peel-off gel polish! I loved creating different colours and made a few 5ml bottles of colours that represented me. I'm glad I was introduced to this brand as the peel-off factor was one that really sealed the deal. No acetone soaking and smell, just peel it off when you want to!
Head over to Nail Deck's Instagram page for more. They are a nail polish artisan and their polishes are made in Singapore! The owner has spent years to perfect his formulations for his brands, Nail Deck, Light Laquer & the latest formulation, Aquajellie! Below will be some of my reviews and favourites!
GEL POLISH YOU CAN PEEL-OFF AND DO AT HOME! LIGHT LACQUER!
M helped me purchase the oil and the Lacquer kit when she went to one of their Lacquerland booths! Pretty cool stuff seeing IG Story updates! You can make your own colours on the spot! With this pandemic situation and Circuit Breaker, it's pretty much impossible to go down to experience Lacquerland yourself, so getting the Lacquer Kit is as close as you can get to experience the real deal (for now!). You get to feel all science like as there's a bunch of droppers, tubes and 5ml NP vials for you to create your own colours to suit your personality!
You will need a UVLED Lamp to cure the formula similar to a gel NP. As you can see on my thumb, it's so glossy that you do not need a topcoat over it! Peeling it off is so fun after! Now I get why Simplynailogical uses a peel-off base. Look at the endless peel-porn possibilities you can create!
Impression:
It's more durable than regular NP's especially if you are one that is pretty rough on the nails.
It will last you about 1-2 Weeks of wear time!
I'm okay with the duration of wear time as I do like to change up my nail colour very often since I do get bored of wearing one colour after a while (sometimes even just after 1 day).
However, the downside as a beginner who has never used a UVLED Lamp for any curing before, it was a learning curve for me. I botched a few attempts as I didn't let the gel polish cure long enough before adding the other layer and ended up getting uncured resin layer under the top layer. Once you have mastered the duration of cure and thickness of application, you will find endless possibilities. Put your creative mind to it!
Highly recommend for anyone who likes gel polish but hates the acetone removal process!
NO UVLED, LOW ODOUR, PEEL-OFF, KID-FRIENDLY NAIL POLISH, AQUAJELLIE!
NAIL DECK recently released their latest formulation that does not require the UVLED curing. This is also a peel-off formula! It piqued my interest as I knew that after trying the Light Lacquer formulation, this one, would be of superb quality as well!
Their Ambrosia Collection which consists of pastel tones, was the first batch of colours they introduced for this formulation. As I'm more of a dark NP kind of person, the pastels didn't really interest me at all, however, I wanted to give it a try! A no cure NP that is peelable? Count me in!
Colours bought:
- Strawberry Shortcake (Favourite, has a strawberry scent!)
- Lemon Meringue
- Peach Speckles
AQUAJELLIE Formula:
Polyurethane-1, Stearalkonium Bentonite, Propylene Glycol, Hyaluronic acid
The formulation took Nail Deck nine years to perfect, and after trying it out, the durability of the NP was worth the time taken to perfect the formula. If you think that this peelable formula is similar to those kids NP that acts like craft glue, think again!
I was so impressed by how easily it was to apply and the drying time. The wear time really depends on the activity that you are doing, more rigorous activities using your hands will definitely lift the corners or the tips easier (especially on the pointer finger).
Best way to apply it IMO:
1. Work relatively quickly with confident strokes to get an even application. Paint on the four fingers first and thumb last.
Thin layer for the base is better. You will see the brush strokes but that it okay, we are going to add another layer later.
2. Let dry completely for 1 minute.
3. Apply the next layer generously (beware not to overflood the nail).
4. Let dry completely for 2-3 minutes.
5. Clean up the edges with a toothpick if messy.
I even gifted it to some of my girlfriends for them to enjoy as a treat during this Circuit Breaker period. Great alternative for my friends who usually wear those halal nail polish but want a more varied colour option! (This NP is not halal, but the option to peel-off is a good temporary alternative that will be easy to remove during ablution.) Here are some of our applications!
" I love the colour!"- Sarah
"It's so mess-free."- Liyana
They recently launched their latest AQUAJELLIE Collection called the Supernova Collection. Reds and Blues, richer and bolder colours. Just ordered their darkest colour yet to try, Milky Way. I think this collection has sparkles in it and I can't wait to try it!
Do I Recommend?
Yes! I highly recommend trying any of these brands out from Nail Deck! If you are someone who doesn't like the fuss of UVLED Lamps, go for their AQUAJELLIE formula. If you want the longevity with the peel-off capability, go for the Light Lacquer formula. You won't stop at just 1 colour after trying them out!
